Sydney Vivid Festival 2016

This year the Sydney Vivid Festival 2016 runs for 23 nights and is the world’s largest celebration of light, music and ideas, and kicks off with the lighting of the sails on the Sydney Opera House on May 27 through to June 18. This will be the eight year of lighting the sails and will feature Australian indigenous artwork focusing on iconic contemporary works from the late Gulumbu Yunupingu as well as various other indigenous artists.

Vivid Light is a spectacular display which features more than 60 projections, light sculptures and various installations showcasing everything from nature through to technology. But why not take a Vivid Light Festival Tour from 1st June through to 8th June in which you will learn about photography while walking around the city centre and taking great shots of Sydney at the same time. Also there are a few Vivid Sydney Harbour Tours which will give you a fantastic view of the lights without the crowds. Also this year there will be added displays at The Royal Botanic Garden  with 3D-mapped projections which will bring a magical feeling to the world of nature, and Taronga Zoo with large-scale lanterns portraying extremely endangered species.

This Ball will feature live music as well as art at Carriage works (the largest multi-arts of its kind in Australia) spanning two stages.

Vivid Ideas – This is an exciting and interesting series of public talks with 180 events analysing and debating topics ranging from functional tools for imaginative professionals through to the design of our cities. There are numerous eating venues around the city and the harbour ranging from first-class restaurants down to take-aways as well as plenty of bars for those who get thirsty from all that walking and dancing!

And why not top-off the festive activities with a harbour bridge climb? On all night climbs you will be issued with a flashing vest and when you reach the summit there is a 1970’s style dance floor for you to dance the night away!
